Picture Frame

Your smiling face peers out of a tight embrace,
Her face leaning against your stubble.
Some days I found that prickly shadow sexy -
It added a bad-boy charm to your handsome face.
On other occasions, it swelled my lips,
Painful assault on my cheek during each kiss.
Love - hate relationship defined.

Her hand wraps your neck possessively.
Did I claim my territory with the same
Careless gesture?
Your perfect smile into the camera.
Are you indeed this gloriously happy?
Or is it a photogenic moment, aimed at the future audience?

My fingers skim the surface of the matte snapshot,
Brushing it lightly, as if to read the answers
Spelled out in Braille.
My own calm detachment startles me.
Where are the lurking stings of jealousy?
Your glowing smile has now no claim on me.
So many times imagining another face next to yours
Rattled my peace and robbed my sleep.
Now your arm rests on her smooth shoulder,
And blood doesn't rise to my face in a mad rush.
